It was filmed while they were on leave, I believe. Apart from the sub-par acting, which is understandable, it was a very good movie.

My honest opinion: propaganda. I’m sure the answer they will give is that they were active duty when they filmed the movie, but obviously due to safety concerns they aren’t anymore.

My guess is that money changed hands and that it did not go to the individual Navy Seals.

Apparently, the SEALs wanted to attract more people in the teams by using real SEALs in the movie. Guess that really sets them apart from the “silent professionals” in the Army Special Forces :P

My dad was telling me that he read an article about it in the NY Times today…apparently it’s the first film to use live ammo, too. I still don’t get if it’s a documentary or scripted or both??

It started out as a recruiting video, and then they sold it to filmmakers who fleshed it out with actors. Seems shady to me.

LA Times: “Act of Valor” was built from the raw material of real-life training videos of active-duty SEALs, with footage folded into a series of scripted vignettes about a number of harrowing missions.” Sounds like a re-edited training video?

Active reserve perhaps? I just assumed they were retired active duty, or honorably discharged…
